GOGO ACADEMY
Empowering the Next Generation Through Music, Culture & Technology
GOGO Academy Orientation at Kramer Middle School, Southeast, Washington, DC in 2016
Founded by Grammy-nominated producer and cultural innovator Tone P, GOGO Academy is a community-based music education program that uses D.C.’s homegrown Go-Go sound as a foundation to teach modern music production, performance, and creative entrepreneurship.
From 2017 to 2020, the Academy served at-risk youth across Washington, D.C., providing hands-on training in music production, songwriting, video production, and publishing education. Each session gives students real-world industry experience—from building beats and recording vocals to registering their songs with PROs like ASCAP and BMI—while teaching teamwork, discipline, and confidence.
GOGO Academy’s mission is simple: use music as a bridge to opportunity. By blending culture, mentorship, and technology, the program equips young creators with the tools to express themselves, tell their stories, and shape the future of D.C.’s sound.
