When former NFL Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis stepped into the music world, he partnered with Washington, D.C. producer Tone P to help shape the sound of his debut album “Showtime.” Tone P served as executive producer on the project, guiding the creative direction and production while helping translate Davis’ competitive, high-energy sports mindset into music.

The album was built around sports-anthem energy, combining hip-hop, trap, and motivational themes that reflect Davis’ transition from the football field to entertainment. The project features contributions from artists including Young Dro, Zaytoven, Lightshow, Black Cobain, and 3ohBlack, with Tone P also appearing on the album as both producer and collaborator.
 

One of the standout moments from the project came with the single Bounce Like Dis, where Tone P infused the track with the rhythmic identity of Washington, D.C. The record samples music from the D.C. Go-Go band New Impressionz, bringing the bounce and percussion-driven groove of Go-Go into the sound of the record.

The music video for the song captured that same energy visually. Filmed on the 50-yard line at FedExField, home of the Washington NFL franchise now known as the Washington Commanders, the video placed Davis back in a stadium environment while celebrating his transition from sports to music.

For Tone P, the project represented more than just producing a record. It was another opportunity to inject the sound of Washington, D.C. into mainstream music, using Go-Go rhythms and cultural influence as part of the creative identity behind the album.

Through Showtime, the worlds of sports, hip-hop, and D.C. culture collided, proving that the competitive spirit of the field and the rhythm of the District can exist on the same stage.
